ANEC Chair responds to Lord Adonis' Economic Review Report

12 April 2013

Today, Lord Andrew Adonis published an independent review on behalf of the North East Local Enterprise Partnership, which sets out proposals for how the NELEP area can drive forward its economy.

All 12 councils in the North East area have at the heart of their agendas a commitment to creating the conditions for economic growth, and the LEP geographies are working to drive things forward so that the North East as a whole can build on the very positive strengths and assets it possesses.

Welcoming the report as an important step forward for the NELEP area, Councillor Paul Watson, Chair of ANEC, said "The report contains some interesting proposals which we will be considering. I would emphasise that we do not see this as signalling a redrawing of the map of the North East. The Tees Valley LEP is taking great strides forward and we would wish to emphasise that both LEPs have an important role to play in driving forward our economies in the North East area. All my colleagues are encouraging of them to work together where it makes sense to do so, just as councils work together through the Association of North East Councils. As councils, for many years we have recognised the clear value of working together across the North East on a defined agenda and our commitment to this remains as strong as ever".
