Finance challenges highlighted with MPs

13 January 2015

The Association of North East Councils (ANEC) and the Special Interest Group of Municipal Authorities (SIGOMA) are meeting MPs today to highlight the resources challenges facing councils in the North East and across the country.

Timed to coincide with the consultation of the Local Government Finance Settlement for 2015-16, the briefing will draw attention to the impact of the Government’s budget reductions to date and the implications of further cuts announced in the latest finance settlement. It will also consider opportunities for raising concerns in Parliament in the lead up to the General Election.
ANEC politicians will be calling for fairer systems of funding based on need and calling for measures to be brought forward that will address inequality and bring fairness and transparency into the system.
