Consultation Responses

Working Neighbourhoods Fund 2009-2011: Revising the Third Criterion - January 2009

is consultation seeks views on the Government’s proposal of November 2008 to revise the third criterion used to determine the eligibility of English local authorities for the Working Neighbourhoods Fund (WNF).

The Government is keen to ensure that the revised criterion will continue to identify those authorities with high concentrations of worklessness. The Government were looking to receive views to help influence its thinking before the criterion is revised. The revision will apply to authorities for 2009-10 and 2010-11.

The consultation was seeking views on the proposal to firstly, revise the third criterion using consistent data from 2007; and to extend the cut-off point for eligibility from 40 to 50. They were also seeking views on any other aspect of the proposals in this document, which respondents wished to make. It should be noted that the consultation did not seek views on the first and second criteria. These will remain as announced in December 2007.

In consultation with its members, the Association submitted the following response to Government.
