The Association of North East Councils has consistently supported the sustainable development of Newcastle International and Durham Tees Valley airports, given their importance to the economic development and competitiveness of the North East and had welcomed the opportunity to offer comments and highlight issues of concern in relation to the consultation on the future of aviation.

The Association takes the view that the current method of financing Academies’ central service costs through top slicing of formula grant is fundamentally inappropriate for the North East.
