“DELIVERING HOUSING AND REGENERATION: COMMUNITIES ENGLAND AND THE FUTURE OF SOCIAL HOUSING REGULATION” CONSULTATION – September 2007
The proposal to set up Communities England was announced in January 2007, and this consultation was seeking views on the role that Communities England should take, in response to the roles and responsibilities set out by Government in the consultation document. It also invited views on the Government’s proposals for the future system of regulating social housing providers.
The Government were keen to ensure that Communities England plays an important role in strengthening local leadership and empowering local communities as outlined in “Strong and Prosperous Communities”, the recent Local Government White Paper.
Communities England will be made a named partner for local authorities to consult when preparing the Sustainable Community Strategy and the Local Area Agreement; the strategic vision and delivery plan for an area. It was also proposed that Communities England should help to deliver a range of core outcomes, which were outlined and asked for views upon.
