Until the end of July 2010 the Association carried out a strategy integration role in relation to regional planning, housing, transport, scrutiny and sustainable development.
The Association also carried out a statutory role on behalf of the local authority leaders board in relation to the Regional Spatial Strategy for the North East (2008) and the development of an integrated North East Strategy.
