Cllr Nigel Martin is originally from Cleethorpes in North Lincolnshire. Following studies in Mathematics (MA, PhD and Research Fellowship) at Cambridge University, Cllr Martin came to Durham in 1975 to take up a position at the University of Durham.
Cllr Martin was appointed Principal at Trevelyan College in 2000. He is also Senior Lecturer in Mathematics. Since 2002 he has been Deputy Dean of Colleges and City Liaison Officer, a post which has seen him deal with many student-community issues.
Since being elected as a County Councillor for the Neville Cross Division in 1985, Cllr Martin has been re-elected every four years. He has also stood in three General Elections (1987 - Newcastle Central; 1992 and 1997 - City of Durham) and one European Election in 1994 (County Durham and Blaydon).
He is also a Governor at Durham Johnston Comprehensive School and at Neville's Cross Primary School. |
