Biography

Councillor Linda Ebbatson was elected as the first woman leader of Chester le Street District Council in 2003. Re-elected as Leader in 2007.

Councillor Ebbatson was born in Gateshead and raised in Newcastle. She has a PhD in archaeology and has lived and worked in Teesside, Germany and Durham.

She has led a radical change and improvement programme in Chester le Street which has seen the Council adopt a ‘one team’ approach which seeks to recognise and reward talent and potential.

She has been a school governor since 1980. In the late nineties she was Chair of Finance and Property at Newker Primary School (1998-2003) and in 1999 became Performance Management Governor (1999–2003). She is a member of the LGA Environment Board and is the Vice Chair of the LGA Regions Forum.
